Der polnisch-dänisch-isländische Experimental-, Sound- und Medienkünstler Konrad Korabiewski wurde weltweit ausgezeichnet und lebt aktuell im Osten Islands. Seine durch ihren genre- und medienübergreifenden Ansatz gekennzeichneten Arbeiten mit Sound Art, Filmmusik, Installationen, Radio, Video und Multimedia besitzen ein starkes ortsspezifisches Element. Die musikalische Atmosphäre Korabiewskis ist düster und intensiv und zeugt von einer großen Aufmerksamkeit für den musikalischen Raum; zeitweise mit meditativem Charakter, wobei Verzerrung eine emotionale Tiefe zum Ausdruck bringt, die in minimalistischen Klangszenarien ein aufmerksames Zuhören fordert und bewirkt. Korabiewski hat internationale Preise und Stipendien erhalten; er wurde 2014 mit dem Wissenschaftspreis und einem Arbeitsstipendium des prestigeträchtigen Berliner Künstlerprogramms des DAAD ausgezeichnet und für zwei Medienkunstpreise nominiert: dem European Sound Art Award (ehemals Deutscher Klangkunst-Preis) und dem Marler Videokunst-Preis. Korabiewski hat einen Master in elektronischer Musikkomposition von der dänischen Royal Academy of Music in Aarhus. Er ist Gründer und derzeit auch Leiter von Skálar | Sound Art | Experimental Music in Seyðisfjörður im Osten Islands. Korabiewski arbeitet als freier Kurator und als wissenschaftlicher Mitarbeiter am Digital Media Department der University of California in Santa Cruz. Seit 2004 ist er außerdem Mitglied des dänischen Komponistenverbandes.

Krafla is artist Konrad Korabiewski’s new Icelandic piece “in progress”, a electro-acoustic performance composed primarily from field recordings from the Krafla geothermal power plant and surrounding region, located in a volcanic caldera in the north of Iceland.
The Krafla power plant includes numerous deep boreholes to access steam and geothermal springs; the top of each borehole is enclosed in a geodesic structure and connected to a network of pipelines which bring steam and water to various parts of the power plant. Each of these boreholes has a very individual character depending on the age and depth of the installation, and as such function as a kind of industrial musical instrument with its own personality. The evaporation processes and power turbines also produce an intense density of sound. These industrial infrastructures stand in the context of the weather and land of the caldera, prone to intense winds and heavy fog. Krafla seeks to explore the relationships between these human and extra-human forces.
The Project emerges from The New York Times Magazine fall 2018 “Sonic Voyages Issue” focusing on travel to parts of the world based on sonic attractions or properties featured soundscapes from 11 sites around the world including Iceland with field recordings by Anna Friz and Konrad Korabiewski.

Marold Langer-Philippsen, born in Munich, lives in Europe, works as radio/media artist, director, performer, stage/exhibition designer and musician in the fields of time-based arts with particular attention to public space, theatre and live broadcast since 1984.
His radio works were created for community radios in Europe, Public Broadcast Stations in Germany, Austria, Czech Republic and Slovakia, Ars Electronica Linz and São Paulo Art Biennial. His performance works were presented throughout Europe, in the Middle East, South America and Australia.
